This is the first post in the new Elmhurst College Librarians blog. The six of us -- Ayanna Gaines, Donna Goodwyn, Anne Jordan-Baker, Elaine Fetyko Page, Jennifer Paliatka, and Susan Swords Steffen -- are all active members of the Elmhurst College faculty. In addition to teaching over 150 information literacy sessions annually, we also administer the Blackboard course management software program (at least the teaching aspects), engage in collection development, assist faculty with their technology conundrums, and, of course, provide reference service.

We all have our individual niches:

* Susan is Director of the library, and takes charge of the big issues that crop up. In addition, she is an adjunct in the English department here at EC, teaching classes in Children's and Adolescent Literature. She is currently an adjunct at Dominican University as well, teaching a course on user instruction in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science.

* Donna is Head of Reference, and handles many of the little details that go into the provision of good reference. She is interested in Civil War reenactments, and is quite knowledgeable about art and education resources.

* Elaine is Head of Technical Services, as well as our archivist. She knows a lot about copyright, cataloging, and the library's intricate computer network. She was a music major, and is quite on top of the religion and theology resources as well.

* Anne is an Instruction/Reference librarian. She is currently working with the Nursing department in establishing an organized information literacy program. She has been developing the library's collection of gay and lesbian materials, and has worked a lot with our database providers.

* Ayanna is a Reference/Instruction librarian and the official pop culture junkie in the library. She maintains the library website, taking the duties over from Anne, and tries to keep up on various Internet technologies and trends. She also answers a lot of Blackboard questions.

* Jennifer is the newest member of our merry band. An Instruction/Reference librarian, she's been cultivating her knowledge of business and economics resources, and handles a lot of our public displays. She works a lot with the evening and adult programs.

This blog will cover a number of issues -- anything from handy resources recently purchased by the library, to helpful Blackboard hints, to glimpses into our recent renovation.

Enjoy, and come back often!

~ Ayanna

A.
